ProMaster 2’ LED RGB Tube Light: Controlling the Light and the Story
What if you could keep creating even after the sun went down?
What if the moment the light faded wasn’t the end of the shoot but the moment your creativity started to peak and expand?
What if you could control the light instead of just chasing it?
That’s exactly what we set out to do with the ProMaster Chroma TL24RGB 2’ LED Tube Light, a compact but powerful tool designed to unlock creative lighting possibilities long after golden hour disappears. This is one of those creative weapons that will force you to end your doom scrolling on your phone and get you back out into a creative zone.
Heading into the Field: Pre Scout
For this project, we set out across a few carefully selected Colorado locations, unique landscapes, and textures that would allow us to showcase what the tube light could really do.
Pre-scouting locations is essential for projects like this. When you’re heading out to shoot in the dark, knowing your terrain ahead of time is everything. You need to understand the composition, the foreground, and the surrounding environment before you start introducing light into the scene.
So that’s exactly what we did.
Having the ProMaster Air Support Light Stand made this project dramatically easier. With the extended reach of the stand, we were able to elevate the LED tubes higher, stretch the light across wider scenes, and experiment with taller, more dynamic light painting concepts.
Using two light stands and two LED tube lights, we started mixing colors in ways we had never tried with before: blending cool and warm tones, painting light into landscapes, and adding subtle accents that transformed otherwise dark-boring scenes.
Creating During Blue Hour
One evening we headed up to a frozen Colorado alpine lake just before sunset.
Timing was everything. By arriving early, well before sunset, we were able to shoot during blue hour – that brief window where the sky still carries color but the landscape begins to darken. This allowed us to capture foreground detail, middle ground texture, and even distant Rocky Mountain peaks while introducing controlled light into the frame.
The LED tube lights performed incredibly well in harsh alpine conditions. Temperatures were below freezing and winds picked up across the lake, yet the lights remained stable and consistent. Even better – the built-in battery kept us creating for hours after dark, allowing us to continue creating long into the frigid Colorado night.
Light Painting in the Colorado Backcountry
From the lake we moved into a snow-covered stretch of tundra leading into a dark forest.
Once again, the Air Support stands allowed us to push the lights farther away from the camera and illuminate sections of the landscape that would otherwise disappear into darkness.
Here we started playing with narrative. Our vision was simple: an explorer moving through a frozen landscape using the LED tube light as a torch to illuminate their path.
We mixed cool blue tones with warmer golden light to create contrast between the cold environment and the warmth of the light source.
The result felt cinematic, almost like stepping into another world. That’s one of our favorite things about the ProMaster Chroma TL24RGB 2’ LED Tube Light: the ability to have an imaginative idea in your mind and bring it to life, not using AI, but using deep creative intuition. It’s important to go out with a patient plan but also to be playful and open to other possibilities.
Experimenting with the Effects Mode
One of the most fun parts of using the ProMaster TL24RGB is experimenting with its built-in lighting effects. The tube light includes 19 different lighting scenes, many with multiple speed variations, creating dozens of possible lighting effects.
During long exposures, we found that the Fireworks/Party (and RGB) mode produced especially unique brush strokes when moving the light through the frame. Instead of a solid beam, the light scattered and shifted, producing surreal streaks of color that felt almost painterly when layered into a scene. Other effects like Lightning, Candle, and Fire can instantly transform a shot or video scene with atmospheric lighting that would otherwise require complex setups.
Full Creative Color Control
Beyond effects, the TL24RGB gives you precise lighting control through three core modes:
CCT Mode (White Light Control)
Adjustable color temperature from 2,500K to 8,500K, allowing you to match warm sunset tones or cooler moonlit environments.
HSI Mode (Full RGB Color)
This mode unlocks 360 colors with adjustable saturation and intensity, giving you total control over the mood and tone of your scene.
Effects Mode
A library of 19 cinematic lighting effects like lightning, fireworks, police lights, fire, candle flicker, and more, perfect for storytelling or creative long exposures. And when you're working with multiple lights, everything can be controlled wirelessly through the ProMaster Light Attendant mobile app, allowing you to adjust colors, brightness, groups, and channels remotely. Stop wasting energy running from light to light… you can do it all at the touch of a button on the Light Attendant app.
Creative Ideas Beyond Traditional Light Painting
The obvious use for an LED tube is light painting but that’s just the beginning. Here are a few other creative ideas worth trying out:
Illuminate a doorway or structure
Place the tube behind a door, archway, or cabin entrance to create a glowing portal effect. Using the CCT mode, with a bluer-white light you can do one singular brush stroke from the bottom of the doorway to the top, to create a portal looking entryway.
Create beams of light through trees
Use flash-style effects or short bursts of light to simulate beams of light bouncing through a forest.
Add subtle color separation in landscapes
Use one tube for cool environmental light and another for warm accent light to add depth to your frame.
Create rim lighting on subjects
Position the tube behind a person or object to add dramatic backlighting.
Simulate environmental light sources
Use candle, fire, or lightning modes to create realistic lighting scenarios for storytelling.

Final Thoughts
The biggest realization from this project was simple: night photography doesn’t have to mean the end of creativity, the TL24RGB Tube Light expands your vision and helps you execute it.
With tools like the ProMaster RGB 2’ LED Tube Light, darkness becomes an opportunity to experiment, paint with color, and build entirely new scenes that wouldn’t exist otherwise.
Instead of chasing the last bit of sunlight, you start creating and controlling your own light.
And once you realize that the night can become a creative studio filled with imagination, what will you create? Tag @promasterphoto in your creations, we’d love to see what you come up with!
