Weekend Warrior: Creating on the Oregon Coast
In the Pacific Northwest, some weekends are made for slowing down when you’re socked in, and others for chasing those fleeting moments of light, salty air, and once in a lifetime scenes. As a photographer, I live for the latter. When I set sail in my trusty Subaru Outback for the Oregon Coast recently, the goal was simple: capture some early morning energy of the local surfers against the lush backdrop of the moody PNW. But like every weekend warrior knows, great shots demand gear that keeps up - reliable, compact, and ready to go wherever the day may take you.
That’s where my ProMaster setup came in. Between the Blue Ridge 2.0 Medium Daypack, the CFexpress 4.0 Type A Advanced Memory Card, and the CFexpress Type A Card Reader, I had everything I needed to shoot, store, and edit in the field without slowing down.
The Oregon Coast can be unpredictable. One minute, you’re walking through misty, dense evergreen forest; the next, you’re laying in the sand trying to time a perfect cutback shot as the sun breaks through. The Blue Ridge 2.0 Daypack made the constant movement effortless. Its weather-resistant materials, convenient compartment layout, and sleek size meant my camera, lenses, drone, and ProMaster accessories stayed protected but easily accessible. It's rugged enough to withstand the elements, and comfortable enough to wear from sunrise scouting to a golden hour composition mission.
Of course, none of that matters without fast, reliable memory. The CFexpress 4.0 Type A 480GB Advanced Card handled my Sony’s burst shooting and 4K surf footage like a champ. No lag or skipped frames. It’s the kind of confidence that lets you focus on composition and story rather than worrying about whether the gear can keep up with the action.
On any old shoot, I’d put these newly created files in a holding pattern until I got home or found a local coffee shop. There’s no reason to wait when ProMaster’s CFexpress Type A Card Reader can be directly plugged into my laptop right next to the beach? Starting the editing process while still having surf views and being immersed in the moodiness that I’d just shot is unmatched, and gave me the opportunity to re-shoot anything I missed on the first round. The dual USB-C and USB-A ports would make transferring massive files to any setup, Mac, PC, or otherwise, a fast and painless process, even with coastal wind whipping at my back. Within seconds, I was uploading files, reviewing clips, and kicking off my editing workflow while hanging onto the views.
That’s the kind of freedom every weekend warrior dreams of: the ability to create, edit, and share - all without breaking your rhythm or your stride. ProMaster’s ecosystem of products gives us that freedom, transforming what could have been a “wait-until-I-get-home” project into a fully on the spot creative workflow.
Photography is about being ready - ready for the light, the moment, the action. Out on the coast, with ProMaster gear in tow, I was more than ready.
