Small But Mighty: Exploring ProMaster’s Still Life Studio
A Portable Studio Built for Creativity
One of the biggest surprises with the ProMaster Still Life Studio is just how quickly it becomes part of your workflow.
The folding design means the studio sets up in seconds and packs away just as quickly, which makes experimenting far more approachable than a traditional studio setup. Instead of spending time assembling lights, stands, modifiers and backdrops, everything is already integrated into one compact system. For this project, I even set the studio up on a kitchen worktop at home, which really highlights just how easily it can be used in everyday spaces without needing a dedicated studio environment.
For photographers and creators working in smaller spaces, or simply wanting a cleaner and more efficient setup, that portability becomes a huge advantage.
Despite folding almost flat for storage, the 23” cube size still offers plenty of room to work with a wide range of products. Throughout this project I photographed everything from trainers and coffee through to candles and cans, each requiring slightly different lighting approaches and compositions.
What stood out most was how adaptable the setup felt depending on the mood and style I wanted to create.
Introducing the ProMaster Still Life Studio
The ProMaster Still Life Studio is a compact, all-in-one portable studio designed for photographing small products and creative still life setups.
Measuring 23” x 23” x 23”, it combines integrated RGB LED lighting with interchangeable background sweeps, giving full control over how each product is lit and presented without the need for a traditional studio setup.
Key Features
Integrated RGB LED lighting system built into the studio walls
Wide colour temperature range (2,500K–8,500K)
Full RGB control for creative or natural lighting setups
High colour accuracy (TLCI 98+ / CRI 96+)
Wireless control via the Light Attendant app or wired controller
Interchangeable background sweeps for versatile styling
Fast setup and pack-down with a foldable design
Compact, portable build ideal for small spaces or location use
Beyond the technical setup, what stands out most is its simplicity. Everything is built into a single system, meaning setup is fast, consistent, and far more accessible than building a traditional studio from scratch.
From a practical standpoint, it also offers a cost-effective way to achieve studio-quality results in a compact, portable setup without the need for a full studio build.
Controlled Light, Creative Flexibility
At the centre of the system is the integrated RGB lighting setup, which provides soft, even light across the entire studio space.
What I particularly liked was how easy it was to move between clean, natural looking product shots and more stylised creative setups without overcomplicating the process.
Some products worked best with bright, minimal lighting and softer shadows, while others suited more directional light and darker backgrounds to create a moodier, more cinematic feel. Being able to quickly adjust brightness, colour temperature and RGB lighting options made it easy to experiment and refine each scene as I worked.
The built-in lighting also does a really nice job of revealing texture and detail, something that becomes especially important when photographing products up close.
Experimenting with Different Products
One of the most enjoyable parts of this project was seeing how differently each product responded to light and composition.
For some setups, simplicity worked best. A clean background, soft lighting, and subtle shadows helped create polished, commercial style images with a minimal feel.
The interchangeable background sweeps played a huge role here. Being able to quickly swap between white, black, and neutral tones completely changed the feel of each image without needing to rebuild the scene from scratch.
A Workflow That Stays Simple
The Still Life Studio removes a lot of the complications that can sometimes make studio photography feel intimidating or overly technical. Lighting, backgrounds, and control are all integrated into one compact system, allowing you to focus more on the image itself rather than constantly adjusting gear around you.
The Light Attendant app, available for iOS and Android, also became a genuinely useful part of the workflow. Being able to control brightness, colour, and lighting modes wirelessly from a phone or tablet keeps the process feeling fluid, especially when making small lighting adjustments while composing shots through the camera.
Final Thoughts
The ProMaster Still Life Studio doesn’t try to overcomplicate product photography. Instead, it creates an environment where experimenting with light, colour, texture, and composition feels approachable and enjoyable.
For creators looking to build cleaner product imagery without needing a large dedicated studio space, it offers an impressive balance between portability, simplicity, and creative flexibility.
