ProMaster Launches HGX Prime Variable Neutral Density Filters

ProMaster Launches HGX Prime Variable Neutral Density Filters

These new Variable ND filters combine industry-leading optical sharpness and features.

FAIRFIELD, CT - February 18, 2020: ProMaster, a leading brand in high-quality accessories for still photography and videography, announces new variable neutral density filters that join the HGX Prime professional collection. Precision engineered to provide an extremely sharp image with outstanding color rendition, the 1.3 to 8 stop density range is achieved with color-corrected polarizing films that are applied using a unique, proprietary process.

Each filter is manufactured using ultra-hardened, scratch resistant optical glass that is individually ground, polished, and coated with 36 layers of anti-reflective multi-coatings. Like all ProMaster HGX Prime filters, these Variable NDs feature a Repellamax II anti-static barrier that resists dust, dirt, oil, water, and fingerprints.

Mechanical hard stops at each end of the filter’s density range prevents photographers from going outside the minimum/maximum useable density. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the filter ring is visually demarcated with white lines at each full density stop—from 1.3 (minimum) to 8 (maximum.) While all VND filters are prone to cross-polarization at higher densities, the X on the ring of these filters shows you where you might start to see an X-shaped dark area in your image when using a wide-angle lens.

Installed on each filter is a small, removable, knurled knob that allows for fast, precise adjustments to the filter. Just take hold of this Tactile Control Knob to rotate to the desired density. If lost, replacement Tactile Control Knobs can be obtained by emailing ProMaster’s world-class, U.S.-based customer support at ahuman@promaster.com.

The outer threads of these filters are the same size as the mounting thread; allowing the lens cap to be attached while the filter is installed, and also eliminating the need for steeping rings when mounting other accessories.

Each filter is packaged in an environmentally economical, minimalist container that can also be used for storing the filter when not in use. Inside the packaging is a label that directs photographers to ProMaster’s new filter micro site: filters.promaster.com. There, they will find instructions about how to use their new VND filter, as well as detailed explanations about cross-polarization.

Designed in the United States and manufactured in Japan, ProMaster HGX Prime Variable Neutral Density Filters are available in nine sizes—from 49mm to 82mm—with retail prices starting at $119.95. A complete list of pricing, specifications, and accessories can be found at filters.promaster.com.
