A Match Made on the Green: Golf and Photography

What do golf and photography have in common? A constant pursuit of the perfect shot, a sense of community, or maybe it's the love for being outdoors. When you break it down, they are more similar than not. Each medium comes with its own stories and when you combine them together, you really get something special. That's why we partnered up with Random Golf Club this past year to help get a community of like minded people together and have fun doing what they love.

Random Golf Club?

You may have seen a post or two about our collaboration with Random Golf Club and were intrigued by who they are. If you are completely new to their brand, they are an amazing group of people led by the one and only, Erik Anders Lang. They set out to reshape the narrative of golf with the goal of making it a fun and accessible sport for all by building a community of like minded individuals. It doesn't take long to get the sense that they are a brand that believes in the power of storytelling and the impact it can have.

Mad Scramble Tour and ProMaster

This past summer RGC launched their first “Mad Scramble Tour”. An endeavor that would take their team on what some would call the ultimate road trip. The first leg of their tour brought them from their home base in Austin, Texas all the way to Boston, Massachusetts, stopping at nearly 20 different golf courses along the way. Followed by a west coast tour beginning in early fall, they covered some serious ground, connecting with their community across the nation.

What makes their events so unique is that they are all about having fun. Breaking the traditional mold of golf, RGC has sought to bring people together and share a laugh over a sport in which they all love. Better yet, they live, eat, and breathe storytelling. Although golf is the clear forefront of their brand they are built off story. Through the use of photo and video, they convey their message and help tell the stories of those involved with the brand and the sport of golf. Image making is at the core of who they are, making them a perfect alliance for the mission and goals of ProMaster.

ProMaster has over 100 authorized dealers located throughout the U.S. and each and every one of them had the opportunity to attend any of the events that may have been in their neck of the woods. The goal of this was to help local camera stores get their customers and employees involved. Any attendee could bring their camera along and take pictures at the event whether they participated in playing golf or not. This made for some amazing images and helped to bring both worlds together.

Participants of the tour had the ability to join the photo contest where they could submit up to 10 photos of their choosing for a chance to win some awesome prizes including the new Carbon Fiber Chronicle Tripod as well as gift cards to both RGC, ProMaster, and authorized ProMaster dealers. The turnout was great! Nearly 200 people submitted their photos making for a difficult decision process. Here were Erik’s top picks -

Best Overall - Dan Poss

Best Black and White - Jacob Real

Best Action Shot - Jay Godfrey

We are incredibly grateful to have been part of such an awesome event and look forward to engaging with the amazing community that makes up photography in the new year and beyond. If you haven’t already be sure to check out Random Golf Club and follow along with their journey and as always if you’re not following us feel free to give us a follow @promasterphoto.
